Σύντομη Ιστ ορική αναδρομή.\n\nΣτη Κύπρο\, η Υπηρεσία ή ο Φορέας που είναι επιφορτισμένος με τη ν εφαρμογή της Νομοθεσίας για την Ασφάλε ια και Υγεία στην Εργασία είναι το Τμήμα Επιθεώρησης Εργασίας\, που υπάγεται στο Υπουργείο Εργασίας και Κοινωνικών Ασφαλ ίσεων.\n\n\n\n\nΗ διευθέτηση αυτή δεν είναι ί δια σε όλες τις χώρες της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένω σης. Υπάρχουν χώρες με παρόμοια συστήματ α (Ελλάδα\, Μάλτα) και χώρες με διαφορετικ ά συστήματα (Αγγλία\, Ιρλανδία). Η Νομοθεσ ία όμως είναι παρόμοια αφού υπάρχει η υπ οχρέωση όλων των χωρών της Ευρωπαϊκής Έν ωσης να εναρμονίσουν τη Νομοθεσία τους μ ε τις σχετικές Οδηγίες.\n\nΗ πρώτη Νομοθεσ ία που εισήχθη στη Κύπρο και που αποσκοπ ούσε στη προστασία της Ασφάλειας\, Υγεία ς και Ευημερίας των εργοδοτουμένων ήταν ο περί Εργοστασίων Νόμος Κεφ. 134 που τέθη κε σε εφαρμογή το 1956. Ήταν αρκετά περιεκτ ικός για τα δεδομένα της εποχής\, έγιναν κατά καιρούς διάφορες τροποποιήσεις και εκδόθηκαν αρκετοί Ειδικοί Κανονισμοί γ ια να μπορέσει να καλύψει τις εξελίξεις\, και μέχρι το 1996 αποτελούσε τον βασικό κο ρμό της Νομοθεσίας.\n\nΓια καθαρά ιστορικ ούς λόγους\, σημειώνεται ότι προϋπήρξαν από το 1947 κάποια Νομοθετήματα που αποσκο πούσαν στη προστασία των εργαζομένων αλ λά ασχολούνταν με επί μέρους θέματα όπως οι ασφάλεια ατμολεβήτων και δοχείων πίε σης.\n\nΗ ιστορική αλλαγή έγινε το 1996 με τη ψήφιση του περί Ασφάλειας και Υγείας στ ην Εργασία Νόμου Ν.89(1)96 που τέθηκε σε ισχ ύ την 1/1/97. Τα επόμενα λίγα χρόνια ακολούθ ησαν μικρές τροποποιήσεις όπως το 2001 το 2 002 το 2003. Το 2011 έγιναν νέες - σημαντικές τρ οποποιήσεις και σήμερα ο τίτλος της νομο θεσίας είναι: Οι περί Ασφάλειας και Υγεί ας στην Εργασία Νόμοι του 1996 έως 2011.\n\nΟ π ιο πάνω Νόμος είναι πλήρως εναρμονισμέν ος με τη πράξη της Ευρωπαϊκής Κοινότητας «Οδηγία 89/391/ΕΟΚ» και σκιαγραφεί ή οριοθ ετεί βασικά Πλαίσια και Αρχές\, χωρίς να υπεισέρχεται σε λεπτομέρειες.
