ization (ILO) estimates that each year there are more than 2.78 million de
aths worldwide as a result of workplace incidents or work-related diseases
. in addition to this it also estimates that there are 374 million non-fat
al work-related injuries and illnesses per year. the harm caused to indivi
duals and the financial cost to organisations due to injury and ill health
is immense.\n\nThe health and safety regulator for Great Britain\, the He
alth and Safety Executive (HSE)\, estimates that annually there are approx
imately 31 million working days lost\, and the cost to the British economy
of workplace injuries and ill health is around £15 billion per annul.\n\
nIt is\, therefore\, extremely important that organisations learn lessons
from workplace incidents. The ultimate aim of an incident investigation is
to prevent recurrence of the same incident or\, indeed\, a more serious i
ncident happening in the future.\n\nSome compliance obligations (eg\, the
health and safety management system ISO 45001) also state that incidents m
ust be investigated and actions taken to prevent the incident from happeni
ng again.\n\nHowever\, over time\, HSE Inspectors from the British regulat
or have observed that incident investigation\, in some organisations\, is
not always carried our to the highest standard. The NEBOSH HSE Introductio
n to Incident Investigation aims to equip students with the Knowledge\, un
