SCOPE:\n\nThe International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that each
year there are more than 2.78 million deaths worldwide as a result of work
place incidents or work-related diseases. in addition to this it also esti
mates that there are 374 million non-fatal work-related injuries and illne
sses per year. the harm caused to individuals and the financial cost to or
ganisations due to injury and ill health is immense.\n\nThe health and saf
ety regulator for Great Britain\, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)\,
estimates that annually there are approximately 31 million working days lo
st\, and the cost to the British economy of workplace injuries and ill hea
lth is around £15 billion per annul.\n\nIt is\, therefore\, extremely imp
ortant that organisations learn lessons from workplace incidents. The ulti
mate aim of an incident investigation is to prevent recurrence of the same
incident or\, indeed\, a more serious incident happening in the future.\n
\nSome compliance obligations (eg\, the health and safety management syste
m ISO 45001) also state that incidents must be investigated and actions ta
ken to prevent the incident from happening again.\n\nHowever\, over time\,
HSE Inspectors from the British regulator have observed that incident inv
estigation\, in some organisations\, is not always carried our to the high
est standard. The NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation aims t
o equip students with the Knowledge\, understanding and skills to carry ou
