\n\nThe International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates that each year t
here are more than 2.78 million deaths worldwide as a result of workplace
incidents or work-related diseases. in addition to this it also estimates
that there are 374 million non-fatal work-related injuries and illnesses
per year. the harm caused to individuals and the financial cost to organi
sations due to injury and ill health is immense.\n\nThe health and safety
regulator for Great Britain\, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)\, esti
mates that annually there are approximately 31 million working days lost\,
and the cost to the British economy of workplace injuries and ill health
is around £15 billion per annul.\n\nIt is\, therefore\, extremely importa
nt that organisations learn lessons from workplace incidents. The ultimat
e aim of an incident investigation is to prevent recurrence of the same in
cident or\, indeed\, a more serious incident happening in the future.\n\nS
ome compliance obligations (eg\, the health and safety management system I
SO 45001) also state that incidents must be investigated and actions taken
to prevent the incident from happening again.\n\nHowever\, over time\, HS
E Inspectors from the British regulator have observed that incident invest
igation\, in some organisations\, is not always carried our to the highest
standard. The NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation aims to e
quip students with the Knowledge\, understanding and skills to carry out a

so be able to contribute to team incident investigations for large-scale i
