COURSE AIM AND OBJECTIVES:
The MLP Program is designed for new entrants to the Gas Industry and individuals with relevant Mechanical, engineering or construction qualifications and or relevant working experience.
To undertake a learning program leading to the acquisition of:
• Accredited Scheme Certification – ACS
• A regulated qualification awarded by BPEC Awards which has been recognized by the qualification regulators in the UK.
• The issue of a BPEC Awards Training Completion certificate.
The M:P program of learning and development recognized by the Standards Setting Body (SSB) and IGEM which has been designed and developed by various Certification Bodies.
The MLP includes sufficient theoretical learning input and supervised practical work training in a realistic work environment and supplemented by supervised workplace practice gained under the supervision of a gas mentor.
The MLP program leading to learner’s being able to install, commission, service and maintain a range of gas appliances, installation and equipment including: –:
• Domestic Installations and Appliances
• LPG Gas Installations and Appliances
• Non-Domestic Heating Appliances
• Non-Domestic Catering Appliances
• Non-Domestic Installation Pipework and Meters
Entry route for new Gas Operatives:
Experienced delegates wishing to join the ACS scheme must:
• Hold a valid certificate of gas componence.
• A detailed initial interview to be carried out by an impartial member of staff, from the interview the interviewer will ascertain the knowledge and understanding of the Gas
installations and regulations the prospective candidate will have,
• A signed declaration from the learners Company and line manager that they have been working under supervision for at least 6 months on LPG installations that have been constructed in
accordance to the requirements of the regulations.
Non-experienced Gas Engineers wishing to join the ACS Scheme must:
• Have at least 6 months experience working under supervision in the sector they will be applying for with objective evidence signed by their line Manager.
• During the 6 months they must have worked to the Gas safe systems of work procedures and the Safety in the installation and use of gas systems and appliances Regulations.
• A signed declaration from the learners Company and line Manager that they have been working under supervision for at least 6 months.
• Delegates wishing to changeover to other sectors of the ACS scheme must follow the same route as the one applicable to the UK.
Requirements:
• Training on the relevant core subject – Mandatory for all applicants
• Training on the practical aspect of the module that the delegates is seeking to be certified too.
• Optional for competent persons
• Mandatory for non-experienced persons.
• Assessment on both the core and practical for all candidates
• The route that the candidate will follow depends on their knowledge, experience and skills gained from their onsite guidance and supervision.
Non-experienced delegates:
The initial certificates issued to the successful candidates will allow them to work under a fully certified person for a further 6 months and become fully aware of the requirements of the Gas Safe and relevant regulations. Appropriate objective evidence / portfolio and signed by the delegates Gas Manager will be kept by the candidate to review after the 6 months’ probation period has ended.
A review of the portfolio of their work after 6 months period which must confirm that they have been working to the requirements of Gas Safe in order for them to get a full valid certificate.
The evidence presented by the learner, will be assessed against the following:
• Validity
• Sufficiency
• Accuracy
• Appropriateness
Portfolio and onsite Evidence:
• On-site work portfolios under the supervision of an ACS Gas Engineer will need to be kept with all the elements that will be covered in the Candidates Requirements List as provided in
the MLP Folder / program.
• In addition to the on-site work portfolio candidates will be required to complete at least five boiler installations.
• Once the on-site portfolio and boiler installations have been completed and signed off Delegates are ready to undertake the training and ACS gas assessment for CCN1, at a time arranged
with the Centre.
• Training is provided in-centre, combined with theory and practical training. To be arranged with the centre.
The portfolios will cover:
a) Ventilation
b) Pipe Sizing
c) Gas Rate
d) Burner pressure
e) Purging
f) Flue Flow
g) Spillage
h) Tightness Testing
• All the above should be written in full detail from start to finish with the number allocated to each job.
• When writing up each workplace job, the delegates should start with the details of the job/task, include what the job was, from start to finish with visual inspections at the meter, at
the appliance, what has been found and what is needed if they had any pipework, all workings out need to be recorded, any co readings need to be included the job needs to be written up
in full. Then the delegates need to include what their role was within the job. The tools, materials and equipment that was used and how many hours was spent on the job. They need
to include servicing, breakdown and installations of pipework flues and all appliances.
• When writing up their role or details of the task where tightness testing or gas rates are included this can be given a reference number so this will cut down in repetition of work.
Photos must be provided of the delegates in the picture on site carrying out various tasks:
• Work carried out and each job/worksheet must be signed and dated by the learner and signed by their mentor with his gas safe / reference number.
• From time to time the Centre’s appointed verifier will visit them on-site and sign off tasks and ensure that they are on track with the training / assessment plans.
Additional Information – what must be covered on site and class training:
