NEED & SCOPE:
Developed by NEBOSH in collaboration with the UK’s Health & Safety Executive, the NEBOSH HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at Work provides a practical introduction to managing workplace risk and the hazards which cause them.
The one-day course provides the skills and knowledge needed for delegates to carry out effective risk assessments, identifying workplace hazards and evaluating the danger they pose to workers, visitors, and the public. Delegates will also learn how to propose and implement control measures to reduce these risks, equipping them with everything necessary to make the workplace safer for themselves and fellow employees.
At the end of the course delegates will:
1. Appreciate and understand their responsibilities and that of their subordinate staff.
2. Identify hazards and be aware of some of the resources that can help
3. Assess risks in low to medium risk premises using simple HSE tools
4. Evaluate risks in a proportionate and sensible manner
5. Identify suitable control measures
STRUCTURE:
Element 1 – Why manage Health and Safety Risks
Element 2 – Managing Risk, Identifying and understanding the risks and controlling the risks
Element 3 – Managing Risk, Sources of information and the application of HSE risk Assessment Tools
Element 4 – Delegates to watch a video showing them around a workplace and they complete a risk assessment based on what they’ve seen. This assessment will include identifying hazards, determining the level of risk they pose and identifying control measures which can be used to mitigate the risk.
